On April 18, 2022, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood and Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker presented commendations to members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office investigative, legal and support staff teams, for the successful prosecution of Kelvin Briggs and their efforts as a part of the Victim Witness Unit.
Kelvin Briggs, 64, formerly of Nevada, was sentenced to an aggregate 24 years in New Jersey State Prison on February 10, 2022 by the Honorable Stephen J. Taylor. A jury had returned a verdict in September 2021 finding Briggs guilty of multiple offenses including Endangering the Welfare of a Child (production of sexually explicit images and video of a child engaged in a sexual act), Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child (distribution of sexually explicit images of a child), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a minor).
The defendant was given Parole Supervision for life as well as register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
Prosecutor Carroll presented commendations to Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Sandler, Detective Sergeant Marshall Wang, Detective Supervisor Stephanie Merced, Detective Melissa Enslen, Detective Mark Rodgers, and Supervising Victim Advocate Amanda Holloway.
Prosecutor Carroll said, “Bringing this individual to justice was a complicated endeavor, spanning from Morris County all the way to Las Vegas, and requiring relentless and high-tech investigation efforts.
At the same time, our MCPO personnel proceeded with sensitivity knowing the case involved a minor victim.
I’m proud of the work performed by the members of this office.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office takes the exploitation and threats against our most vulnerable residents very seriously, and I’m glad to see that a guilty judgement was handed down.”
