Authorities in Morris County announced that assessors from the America Correctional Association (ACA) reviewed the Morris County Correctional Facility last week.
Morris County officials stated the review was conducted by two out-of-state independent correctional professionals, Kyle Poppert and Marmie Schuster-Walker.
The assessors reported that the Morris County Correctional Facility was in 100% compliance with both the mandatory and non-mandatory standards, officials said.
During the exit interview, Kyle Poppert explained, “First and foremost, I appreciate the hospitality of the staff at this agency. They made me feel like a member of their team. It takes courage to bring outsiders in and look at your operation, but this was an easy one. This is a very squared-away operation.”
Marmie Schuster-Walker added, “Every inmate we spoke to stated that this is the best facility they have ever been to. They are treated with dignity and respect and raved not only about the sworn staff but applauded the medical staff.”
Ms. Schuster also explained that one inmate sat her down and explained, “This facility saved my life. I was cleared for incarceration by a local hospital, but when I got here, I began to go downhill fast. Both sworn and medical staff acted fast and sent me back out for emergency care. If it wasn’t for them, I would have died.”
Ms. Schuster concluded her statement by saying, “I would have loved to work here. There is no finer place, from what I have seen in all my years, that is better than this. From the staff to the living/working conditions, this is a top-notch operation."
"Kyle Poppert stated he has conducted over 200 audits since 2006, but Morris County Correctional Facility “stands out as the best in the field. They finished on top in every category that we audit, and for that, we are issuing 100% compliance on all. Not many 100% ratings go out on these audits.”
“To open your doors and allow somebody to kick the tires takes courage. I commend all of you,” said Sheriff Gannon.
“Many times, the only role model an inmate may have is you. You are their mentor many times. You may not remember all the inmates that you have dealt with, but I assure you they will absolutely remember you. Job well done. Thank you.”
Officials say it is anticipated that the official recognition of reaccreditation will be conferred and awarded in January 2025 at the Orlando ACA Conference.
Staff from the Morris County Correctional Facility will be attending the conference, where they will go before an ACA panel of corrections professionals to receive the reaccreditation award, according to officials.
