Montclair Man Charged with Manslaughter in Lincoln Tunnel Crash

A 39- year-old Montclair man has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after a crash at the Lincoln Tunnel that killed a Summit man, authorities said today.

According to reports, on September 2, of last year, Louis S. Pine was speeding in his BMW when he slammed and ultimately caused the death of a passenger in the Mercedes minivan.

The passenger, Steven M. Benevento, 49, went into cardiac arrest and died hours later at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

During today’s hearing, Hudson County Prosecutor Leo Hernandez said that surveillance footage - captured by Port Authority security cameras - recorded the whole incident, adding that at the time of the crash, Pine was traveling as fast as 91 miles per hour.

Hudson County Superior Court Judge Sheila Venable set Pine's bail today at $250,000 cash or bond.
