Newark Police officials are investigating the motive behind a shooting that injured a male victim in a section of the city on New Year's morning.
Residents in the vicinity of 420 South 17th Street dialed 911 after hearing multiple rounds of gunfire erupt in their neighborhood around 4:45 a.m.
Newark officers taped off the area after locating shell casings, but no victims were found during their canvas of the neighborhood.
While cops investigated at the scene, officials at Mountainside Medical Center notified Montclair Police when a male victim entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds in his arm and leg.
Police notified Newark authorities to take over the investigation.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined, and no arrests have been reported.
