As the final hours of 2024 wind down, my family and friends in Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a mild 46 degrees.According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to usher in the new year while the day will remain dry.
For those preparing to celebrate New Year’s Eve or head to Times Square for the iconic ball drop, the forecast offers a mix of good and bad news. Daytime revelers can leave their umbrellas at home, as the skies will remain mostly sunny with a high near 56.
Winds will be calm, shifting east at 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
However, the evening will bring rain and the possibility of thunderstorms, lasting through the midnight hour.
Showers are expected to persist after the ball drops, tapering off around 3 a.m. Temperatures will dip to a low of 43 degrees.
If you’re heading out to celebrate, bundle up and bring an umbrella to stay dry as you ring in 2025.
Happy New Year, New Jersey – stay safe and enjoy the celebrations!
