A serious crash in Middlesex County early Saturday morning left one person with severe injuries after their vehicle veered off Route 440 in Woodbridge.
The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway, just north of New Brunswick Avenue.
Emergency responders arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway and into a wooded area, with a person trapped inside.
Firefighters worked to extricate the unconscious victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Police temporarily closed the southbound lanes of Route 440 to allow for the ongoing investigation. Authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash and have not released further details at this time.
Drivers were advised to exercise caution while traveling in the area as officials continued their work.
