Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Regional Medical Examiner has ruled that the cause of death for both Octavia Campbell, 29, of East Orange and her seven-year-old daughter Christiana Campbell was “acute carbon monoxide poisoning.’’
The manner of death has been determined to be accidental.
The mother and daughter were found dead on Wednesday by the mother’s boyfriend who came to their East Orange home when he was unable to reach Campbell on the phone.
The preliminary investigation indicated that there was a gas generator in the basement that was not being properly ventilated. The utility company had turned off the power the day before.
