Kearny Police officials are investigating a swatting hoax that occurred in a residential neighborhood in the city on Thursday night.
According to police, the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address occurred in the 200 block of Hoyt Street just before 9:30 p.m.
Police officers and Hudson County SWAT arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a man shot his mother and was armed with a bomb. Police say the same type of call was made at the residence last year.
Police closed the intersection of Hoyt and Schuyler Avenue as officers attempted to make contact with the suspect inside the home.
At approximately 10:30 pa.m., police confirmed that they made entry inside the home and cleared the residence.
There were no injured victims or suspects inside the home.
Police are trying to determine who made the swatting report.
