Police in Newark's East Ward are on the search for several males wanted for an early morning home invasion robbery in the Ironbound section Saturday.
It happened around 2:22 a.m. at an undisclosed home in the 200 block of Elm Street.
In the preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of a burglary in the residential neighborhood.
Officers arrived and found a woman who reported that she observed several males on bicycles attempting to burglarize a construction van on the block while looking out the window.
When the woman exited her home to get a more detailed look at the suspects, the masked black men charged her and pushed their way into the woman's home.
One of the men reportedly held the victim down while the other entered her residence.
Police have not said what the men took before fleeing the scene on bikes. According to police, while the woman waited for police to arrive, the suspects briefly returned and attempted to enter the van.
Authorities recommend residents call Newark Police to report suspicious individuals and criminal activity in the area by dialing 973-733-6000 or 911 if there is an emergency.
Police say never leave your home or confront suspicious people who are preparing to conduct criminal activity.
There were serious injuries reported in this incident.
