Maplewood Enforcement Patrol of Township Had Cops Arrest Juvenile Carjacking Suspect

A routine evening in Maplewood took a dangerous turn when a 20-year-old woman was confronted by three juveniles while walking to her car on Park Avenue.

Officials said around 8:06 p.m., one of the suspects, dressed in black like his companions, brandished a knife and demanded to get into her vehicle.AdThe quick-thinking victim immediately began to call 911, prompting the trio to flee the scene.

Responding officers, already patrolling the area, spotted a young male matching the caller’s description and attempted to stop him.

Police said a brief foot chase ensued through nearby backyards before police were able to apprehend the suspect, identified as a 14-year-old juvenile.

Although the victim was unable to positively identify the suspect at the time, he was taken to police headquarters and later released into the custody of a guardian.

No injuries were reported, and nothing was taken from the victim during the incident.AdThe Maplewood Police Department is continuing its investigation and is seeking further information to identify the remaining suspects.

Authorities urge anyone with details about the case to come forward.
