A 68-year-old man in a wheelchair was sent to the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Police responded to the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard sometime after 9 a.m. for a report of a man struck by a vehicle.
According to a police report, the man in a wheelchair was crossing the street when he was hit by a white Ford Windstar that ultimately fled the scene of the crash.
The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he immediately underwent surgery on one of his lungs. He also reportedly suffered multiple broken ribs and injured his leg.
The incident remains under investigation.
