A man that suffered severe burns while working inside a steel mill in Sayreville has police investigating what officially caused the incident.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation located in the single digit block of Crossman Road North after receiving reports of some type of explosion with injuries just before 3:30 a.m.
Firefighter and rescue crews arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering facial burns after a furnace reportedly exploded in his face reports said.
A medivac helicopter airlifted the victim to St. Barnabus Medical Center in Livingston where doctors are treating him for his injury.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident.
There were no other injuries reported.
