The Bergen County Prosecutor's Fatal Accident Investigations Unit and Paramus police are investigating a fatal pedestrian strike that occurred on a highway in Paramus Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, the unidentified man attempted to cross the highway near Linwood Avenue when he was struck by a car in the northbound lanes just before 6 a.m.
The impact of the collision sent the victim flying to the southbound lanes where he then was struck by other vehicles, according to police.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released the identity of the victim or why he attempted to cross the busy road.
All of the drivers that struck the man pulled over and remained at the scene, authorities said.
Police closed the northbound lanes near Ridgewood Avenue until about 12:10 p.m. for the investigation.
Police opened the southbound side at Paramus Road shortly after 12:30 p.m.
All of the drivers that struck the victim stayed at the scene.
