A 70-year-old Elizabeth man was struck and killed yesterday afternoon by tractor-trailer, police said.
According to police, officers responded to the intersection of North Broad Street and Westfield Avenue shortly after 5:35 p.m. for a report of a man hit by a truck, Lt. Daniel Geddes said.
Upon arrival, officers found the unidentified man lying face down on the street under the tractor trailer.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Trinitas Hospital E.R. staff at shortly before 6 p.m.
Elizabeth Police Department detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elizabeth Fire Dept., Elizabeth Fire Dept. E.M.S., Trinitas Hospital E.M.S., and the Union County Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene.
