Police took a man into custody then charged him with theft after the suspect drove off on a forklift belonging to a business in Newark's East Ward on Friday morning.
It happened at approximately 10:50 a.m. at the Arol Chemical Product Company located at 649 Ferry Street where employees reportedly witnessed an unidentified male jump on a forklift the accelerated down Ferry Street.
Company employees began to pursue the suspect who was described as a white male who wore a black and white hoodie as he made his way over the bridged headed towards Doremus Avenue according to reports.
With police arriving in the area, the suspect was captured near the vicinity of 474 Wilson Avenue without further incident.
Police recovered the forklift after placing the suspect in custody according to reports.
The incident remains under investigation.
