Essex County authorities are investigating a reported robbery that left a man seriously injured inside a park in Newark's North Ward Monday night.
Police were dispatched to the vicinity of Park Avenue and Parker Street to investigate reports of a person bleeding around 8:35 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene and found the unidentified victim suffering stab wounds at that location.
The victim reportedly told police that he was inside Branch Brook Park when four black males approached armed with a sharp object and announced a robbery.
According to a preliminary investigation, the assailant then went on the attack and began stabbing the victim before they fled the scene.
The injured male managed to get out of the park and make his way to Park Avenue, where police were notified, reports said.
