Newark Police are searching for a gunman who fired several shots in the West Ward that struck one person and two vehicles.
It happened near the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 20th Street around 4:50 p.m.
Police said a gunman fired multiple rounds in the communities surrounding South 19th Street, 20th Street and Avon Avenue.
When police arrived, they found an unidentified male suffering bullet wounds. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and remains in serious condition.
Two cars were damaged after stray bullets struck the unoccupied vehicles.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Police closed Avon Avenue at Springfield Avenue for the active investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
