A 35-year-old man shot, killed on a Newark street early this morning has been identified.
According to authorities, officers responded to the 700 block of South 19th Street at approximately 3:30 this morning for a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers found 35-year-old Donald Travis, of Newark, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, lying in the street.
Travis was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:52 am, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
This matter is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
The investigation is active and ongoing, according to Fennelly.
