An overnight attack on a man that occurred on a Newark street has police searching for a suspect in the city's Central Ward.
Police were called to the 60's block of Irvine Turner Boulevard shortly before 12:30 a.m. to investigate a report of an injured person.
Units arrived at the scene contacted EMS after they found a male victim suffering severe injuries inside a residence at that location.
According to preliminary reports, authorities believe that the victim was attacked by a male suspect who struck him in the head with a bat.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital for treatment while detectives set up a crime scene where they searched the vicinity of the New Community Housing complex for the suspect.
The motive for the attack is under investigation.
**UPDATE: 6:28 a.m.**There are "Life Threatening" injuries reported for this attack that appears to be domestic in nature at this time.
