Police in Newark took an armed suspect into custody and charged him with a robbery that occurred in a section of the city's South Ward Saturday night.
According to police, armed suspects approached a male victim while he sat in his car on Heden Terrace around 4:30 p.m.
Police say the suspects pointed weapons and demanded personal possessions from the victim before running from the scene.
Fast responding Newark South Ward police officers observed a suspect fitting the description in the area during their canvas and attempted to stop him, but the assailant sprinted away from officers.
Police were able to catch one of the suspects in the area of West Bigelow and Seymour avenues. According to police, the second suspect was last observed in the area of Mildred Helms Park.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
