The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Woodlynne Police Department reported a knife-wielding robber was captured yesterday following a botched hold-up at a corner grocery store in the borough.
The suspect, Joseph Delozier, 22, of Woodlynne, is accused of entering the D&D Market on the 1600 block of Woodlynne Avenue around 9 a.m. on Tuesday and threatening the owner with a meat cleaver.
He allegedly placed the knife to the victim’s neck and took his cell phone.
The victim put up his hands to block the blade and suffered minor cuts, but managed to flee the store otherwise unscathed.
The suspect began to chase him, but instead returned to the cash register and removed the currency.
Once outside the store, the victim was able to lock the suspect inside. He then flagged down a passerby and ask them to call 911. After the suspect encountered the locked door, surveillance video footage shows him kicking out a window in order to escape. As the robber climbed headfirst through the hole in the window, the store owner struck him in the head with a rubber mallet. The suspect fell to the ground, got back to his feet and began to run with the victim chasing after him.
He was apprehended shortly thereafter by Woodlynne Police while attempting to flee through a nearby cemetery.
Delozier is charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons and criminal mischief.
He was remanded to the Camden County Jail with bail set at $125,000.
