A late night shooting left a man dead in Newark as city and county authorities investigate the third homicide with nearly a dozen shootings that caused injuries in the city’s South Ward in a 24-hour span.
Multiple rounds of gunfire ripped through the 600 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m. sending several police units swarming to the scene where a brief search had cops locate a badly injured male victim who was shot at that location.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital where according to reports, he died several hours later.
Police setup a crime scene in the area where they searched for evidence and possible suspects.
The shooting marks the third homicide that occurred in the city’s South Ward in a 24-hour span according to authorities.
There were about 9 shootings in that section of the city that included a 27-year-old female victim suffering life threatening injuries at University Hospital after she was shot while with a male (identified as Irvington resident, Robert Harrison, Jr, 24) on Willoughby Street on Friday night authorities said.
The identity of last night’s victim has not been released at this time.
