Officials for the Essex County Prosecutor’s office announced the swift arrest of a man and a juvenile charged with shooting a woman, then leaving her to die in close proximity to a Newark public high school on Monday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, residents dialed 911 after hearing gunfire in the residential area that surrounds Technology High School.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Ms. Brook Cline, 34, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering multiple bullet wounds.
The Essex County Prosector’s Office said Ms. Cline died at University Hospital a short time later.
According to a statement released to RLS Media by The Essex Country Prosecutor’s Office, police arrested Newark resident Mr. Kidanys Maldonado, 25, and charges him with Cline’s murder.
Officials said a juvenile was also taken into custody and charged with the fatal shooting.
Residents in the area told RLS Media that Ms. Cline was a new and quiet resident in the area.
”I'm not sure what that was all about, but she did not bother anyone and was quiet," a Kearney Street residents said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Maldonado and the juvenile are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
