A male victim suffering gunshot wounds to the legs was transported by private vehicle to University Hospital late last night in Newark.
The man arrived at the hospital shortly before 11 p.m. where he reported to officials that he was shot near a Rite Aid on Broad and South Street in the city's downtown.
Police were notified and responded to the scene where they found evidence of a shooting. The victim's injuries were not reported to be life threatening.
An investigation is underway in the motive for the shooting.
