A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a Newark fire truck crashed into his vehicle at a location in the city's South Ward on Wednesday afternoon.
Police and EMS responded to reports of an apparatus collision at the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Bergen Street around 3:57 p.m.
Police arrived and found a fire engine and a car were involved in a collision with a man temporarily pinned in the vehicle.
The unidentified man was extricated from the car then transported to an area hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover.
Residents and witnesses in the area told RLS Media that the driver had the green light when the fire truck sped through the red light with lights on but no sirens. Officials said both lights and sirens were activated.
According to residents, the firefighter who operated the fire truck activated the sirens after crashing into the vehicle.
Newark Police officers on the scene issued the driver of the car a ticket.
The collision is under investigation.
