Man Hospitalized After Woman Allegedly Stabs Him in Newark's South Ward

A violent stabbing that occurred in Newark South Ward had police take a woman in custody overnight.

According to Newark Public Safety Director, Anthony F. Ambrose police arrested Medina Gibson, 31, of Newark, for an aggravated assault stabbing Sunday.

Director Ambrose said at approximately 9 p.m.; police responded to West Runyon Street near Seymour Avenue to a call of a stabbing in progress.

Police found a 34-year-old man stabbed following a quarrel with a woman that he knows Director Ambrose said.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital in serious but stable condition after reportedly being stabbed to the eye.

According to Dr. Ambrose, his officers arrested Medina Gibson at around 11 p.m. and charged her with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges lodged against Ms. Gibson are merely accusations.

Medina Gibson presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
