A man was rushed to University Hospital after being shot in the chest in Newark’s South Ward on Monday afternoon.The incident occurred near the intersection of Astor Street and Clinton Avenue, shortly before 1 p.m.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and, upon arrival, found the victim near the AutoZone suffering from a bullet wound to his chest.
Police quickly taped off the area and secured the scene as they searched for additional victims and evidence. No other injuries were reported.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack. The vicitm is reportedly in stable condition.
