Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden man has received an aggregate sentence of 70 years in state prison for a 2013 homicide outside a city bar.
Darrell Crone, 33, was sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue for the shooting death of 27-year-old Timothy Loper Jr. of Pine Hill.
A jury in May found Crone guilty of aggravated manslaughter, attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to have weapons.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Christine Shah presented evidence and witness testimony proving Crone fatally shot Loper, a former Marine who served in Afghanistan, during an altercation outside the now-defunct 20 Horse Tavern near 2nd and Spruce streets around 2:45 a.m. on December 1, 2013.
Video surveillance presented to the jury showed Crone in the bar as well as firing the weapon at the crowd outside moments after Loper was shot in the back.
Crone received a 60-year sentence on the aggravated manslaughter charge and a consecutive 10-year sentence on the certain persons offense.
He was eligible for an extended-term sentence on the aggravated manslaughter charge because he previously committed a crime with a handgun.
He will not be eligible for parole for approximately 55 years.
