Man Gets 48 Years for Fatal Irvington Shooting

After almost two years, a 22-year-old man was sentenced Monday to 48 years for a fatal shooting in Irvington.

Jerrell Alexander was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in connection with the shooting of 18-year-old Mencea Ryner.

According to the prosecutors, on Nov. 18, 2014, Alexander, along with another man who has yet to be identified, shot Ryner multiple times in the area of Lincoln Place in Irvington. Adding that Alexander was also convicted of unlawfully possessing of a handgun in connection with the shooting of Jaime Walker, a witness to Ryner's killing.

According to further investigation, video footage showed Alexander ride up on a bicycle and shoot Ryner four times with a laser-sighted .45-caliber pistol.

Alexander was sentenced to 40 years for the killing of Ryner and eight years for second weapon-possession charge. He will also serve five years of post-prison supervision.
