Police in Newark arrested a man after he was found sleeping inside a stolen vehicle in the city's South Ward Friday morning.
An observant off-duty officer notified headquarters after noticing a running vehicle with an unconscious male inside at the Speedway Gas Station on Elizabeth Avenue and East Peddie around 7:55 a.m.
According to a preliminary investigation, a check of the vehicle's registration came back stolen.
The key was taken from the ignition before the officer woke the man up then placed him under arrest for receiving stolen property.
Police say the vehicle was towed from the gas station and the incident is under investigation.
