Newark's shooting response team was called to assist in the investigation into a shooting that injured a man in Newark's South Ward on Monday evening.
At approximately 6:27 p.m., police were dispatched to the vicinity of 35 Vanderpool Street to investigate reports of shots fired after a ShotSpotter device activated, detecting about a half dozen rounds of gunfire in the community.
Upon arrival, police found an unidentified male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to University Hospital in serious condition. Detectives combed the scene for other possible victims and evidence, but no other injuries were reported.
The motive for the shooting is currently under investigation, and the suspect has not been apprehended at this time.
