Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident that left a man seriously injured Saturday evening.
A ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of nearly a dozen rounds near the intersection of Livingston Street and 17th Avenue around 10:37 p.m.
When offices arrived, they found multiple shell casings on the ground and a male struck by gunfire in front of the old 17th Avenue police precinct.
The victim was transported to University Hospital, where doctors treated his wounds. His condition has not been updated at this time.
It appeared that the victim was shot nearby but ran to the precinct to get help.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large. Police have not released the motive for the shooting.
