The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a violent shooting that left a man dead near a bar in Orange during the overnight hours.
According to a preliminary statement from authorities, the early Saturday morning shooting happened in the vicinity of 67 Central Avenue just before 12:44 a.m.
Officials say police responded to reports of an injured person and when they arrived at the scene, they reportedly found a male victim bleeding from his head after being struck by gunfire.
Authorities set up a crime scene in the area where they searched for evidence and potential suspects, but there were no arrests made.
Police have not said if the victim was shot at that location or if he drove to the Central Avenue destination after being shot somewhere else. It is believed that he was the lone person inside the vehicle.
Officials say the victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel a short time later.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or the motive for the shooting at this time.
