A man found seriously injured on a Newark South Ward Street has police investigating his death.
According to reports, the unidentified male was picked up by EMS on Dayton Street sometime at around 2 a.m. and was transported to Beth Israel Hospital after the located him laying on the ground barely conscious.
The man died a short time later at the hospital reports said.
Detectives were in the area checking surveillance cameras and looking for clues into how the man got to the location and the possible cause of his injuries.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not immediately confirm a homicide investigation.
The State Regional Medical Examiner will determine the cause of the man's death officials said.
The identity of the man has not been released.
