Irvington Police recovered the body of a man near the Post Office early Sunday morning.
Units responded to the Sprinfield Ave. Post Office at around 7 a.m. where they located a man unconscious and unresponsive at that location.
A nearby business owner and several other witnesses at the scene told us that the man was around the age of 60-years-old and possibly homeless.
The business owner said that the man was a good guy that he would offer food to nightly before he fell asleep near the Post Office.
Several visibly shakened and emotionally distraught people (who said that the man was a friend) sat inside the business in shock that their friend only referred to as "Dawoo" was dead.
"He was a good guy and always in great spirits. Everybody around here knew him but I'm not sure if he had any family" said a man sitting in the restaurant.
"He slept near the Post Office since I've known him" the man said.
Several commuters that took the bus at that location remembered the man as being a nice guy. "I'm sad because I never knew his name but many of us taking the bus would talk to him and give him money to buy food" a woman waiting for a bus at that location said.
"To be honest, he would always be out here so he made me feel safe since the area is not the best" the woman said.
An investigation is underway by police but there were no immediate reports of foul play suspected.
