Man Found Dead in Between Shipping Containers in Newark’s South Ward

Clarification 8:30 a.m. 6/27/2024: University Hospital EMS Rescue 1 performed the recovery operation with the help of NFD. 

Police in Newark are investigating the death of a man found in the city’s South Ward this afternoon.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, officers responded to a call at approximately 3:55 p.m. about an unresponsive adult male observed between a shipping container and a building's wall in the 200 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.

University Hospital EMS were first on the scene then joined by University Hospital EMS Rescue 1, Newark Firefighters and members of the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit where they removed the victim. 

Police officials said the man was pronounced deceased at 4:50 p.m.

While the incident remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has not reported a homicide investigation and no further information is available from Newark Police.PUERTO
