NJ Transit Police officials are leading the investigation into a train strike that killed a trespasser in Morristown early Friday morning.
According to a statement released by NJ Transit officials, there were no injuries reported to about 20 passengers and crew members onboard The Morris/Essex line NJ Transit Train number 6601 that departed NJ Penn Station and headed to Dover.
Offical say, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the train struck an adult male trespasser who unlawfully entered the tracks at Convent Station.
The unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene NJ Transit officials said. The train stop is on the campus of St. Elizabeth's College and in close proximity to Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson but it is not known if the victim was associated with either institute of higher learning at this time.
There was no disruption of service because the train was on the final stop of the night according to officials.
