Man Fatally Shot in Newark Identified by Police

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Tuesday night in Newark, NJ, in which a male was fatally wounded.

Authorities said Shortly after 11:00 p.m., Newark police officers responded to the area of Aldine Street and Forrest Street on reports of a shooting.

Arriving officers observed evidence of a shooting at this location and learned that a victim had been transported to Beth Israel Hospital.

The victim, who has been identified as Abdul M. Riley, age 37 of Newark, was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
