Man Fatally Injured by Bus in Newark Identified

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department, the New Jersey Transit Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was fatally injured.

Authorities said, at approximately 7:19 last night 37-year-old Anthony Rivera of Newark was struck by a New Jersey Transit bus in the vicinity of Broad and Clinton Streets in the City of Newark.

Rivera was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m.

No charges were lodged against the driver. The investigation is active and ongoing.
