Man Faces Drug, Weapon Charges in Newark

Authorities announced the arrest of Mr. Alonzo L. McMiller, 31, of Newark, for possession of a loaded weapon and drugs yesterday.

According to police, at approximately 5:36 p.m., officers patrolling the 700-block of South Orange Avenue was alerted of a man with a gun by two East Orange Police Department detectives.

The officer observed a male fitting the description with a handgun at the location.

The suspect, Mr. Alonzo L. McMiller, was immediately arrested.

Police said they found McMiller in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun, 19 vials of cocaine, 41 glassine envelopes of heroin and $232.00 in drug proceeds.

Police charged McMiller with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon While Committing a CDS Offense, two counts of Possession of CDS (cocaine and heroin), two counts of Distribution of CDS, Possession of CDS within 500-feet of a Public Park and Possession of CDS within 1,000-feet of a School.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
