Gloucester County Prosecutor Charles Fiore is announcing the November 17th conviction by jury trial of defendant Wayne Moruzin, formerly of Westville.
Officials say Moruzin was convicted of 21 counts from an Indictment specifying numerous charges, including Armed Robbery, Criminal Restraint, Terroristic Threats, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Weapons Possession, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of CDS (Heroin).
The charges and conviction stem from a June 24, 2014 incident at Document Concepts in Deptford Township.
Officials say Moruzin entered the business and then brandished a handgun at the business owner. As additional employees arrived, Moruzin discharged one round from the firearm into the floor, assaulted an employee with a stun gun, and forced the employees to place restraints on each other. After robbing the victims of personal items, as well as a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, Moruzin fled the scene and was subsequently apprehended shortly thereafter in Camden. At the time of his arrest, Moruzin was found in possession of the handgun and CDS (Heroin).
Prosecutor Fiore highlighted the exemplary efforts of the law enforcement agencies participating in the initial investigation, apprehension and prosecution of defendant Moruzin; the Deptford Township and Camden County Metro Police Departments, the New Jersey State Police and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutor Fiore also made special note of the tireless efforts and professionalism of Chief Assistant Prosecutor Staci Scheetz, who personally handled the Moruzin trial on behalf of the GCPO.
Sentencing for defendant Moruzin is scheduled to occur in January, 2019.
