Man Charged in Crash that Killed Newark Woman in Old Bridge

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department announced today that a 54-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of his passenger in a motor vehicle crash.

Thomas Daya of the Morganville section of Marlboro Township was charged with one count of death by auto of Tina Rouse, 41, of Newark.

Daya's bail has been set at $100,000, who is being held at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

During the investigation, it was determined that Daya was driving a 2014 Ford Explorer on Spring Valley Road in Old Bridge on May 31, 2015, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into on-coming traffic and crashed into two trees at 11:23 a.m.

The victim, who was the front-seat passenger, was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division, where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation is active and is continuing.
