Newark Public Safety officials report the arrest of Efon John Cadogan, 49, of Newark, who was charged with aggravated assault when he shot his friend after an argument on September 10.
According to officials, Police responded to a call about an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that occurred around 10 p.m. in the 900 block of 18th Avenue.
Officials say, the victim and Cadogan, who are long-time friends, got into an argument while they were sitting in the side yard of a building at that address.
Cadogan left the yard but returned moments later and pointed a handgun at the victim, firing one missed shot. Cadogan exited the yard and ran eastbound on 18th Avenue.
The victim left the yard, running toward his own vehicle, which was parked in front of the building.
As the victim attempted to enter his vehicle, Cadogan fired another shot that grazed him in the forearm.
During the investigation, a warrant was issued for Cadogan’s arrest on September 11th.
A week later, on September 20, Cadogan turned himself into the police and was arrested. In addition to aggravated assault, he was also charged with possession of a handgun without a permit and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
