On Wednesday night, authorities responded to an attempted arson incident in a residence located in the 100 block of Springfield Road in Elizabeth.
The incident, which occurred around 9:10 p.m., prompted a joint response from both police and firefighters.
Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders discovered that the resident had poured gasoline throughout the interior of the home with an apparent intention to set it ablaze.
Fortunately, the emotionally distressed male did not ignite the gasoline, and police were able to take him into custody without further harm or incident.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The Union County Arson Investigation Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this attempted arson.
