Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that Alphonso Richardson, 30, of Orange has been arrested for the murder of Gerard Jones, 49, of Hackettstown.
Jones was fatally shot on April 26, at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the area of Poinier Street in Newark.
The shooting may have been the result of a prior dispute.
Today, Richardson was arrested and charged with murder and weapons offenses. He is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
The Honorable Thomas Moore, Judge of the Superior Court, set bail at $750,000. Richardson is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, May 10.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
