Man Arrested for Jersey City Knife-Point Sex Assault

According to authorities, on Wednesday, April 22, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department arrested Mr. Jermaine Williams, 28, of Jersey City, on multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated sexual assault, for the sexual assault at knifepoint of a Jersey City woman on April 7, 2020 on Warner Avenue.

Williams, who initially fled from police, was arrested just before 2 p.m. on Bidwell Avenue in Jersey City. Williams has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2A, a crime of the first degree; Robbery in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1A(1), a crime of the first degree; Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(1), a crime of the second degree; Criminal Restraint in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2B, a crime of the third degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A.

2C:39-4D, a crime of the third degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5D, a crime of the fourth degree; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3A, a crime of the third degree; Obstruction in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1A, a crime of the fourth degree; and Resisting Arrest in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:29-2A(2), a crime of the fourth degree.

Police say on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit responded to a report of a sexual assault at knifepoint on Warner Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Jersey City.

Police say the victim, a 37-year-old woman, was treated at Christ Hospital.

Following his arrest, Williams was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance.

The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.

A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
