Man Arrested for Armed Robbery of 69-Year-Old Newark Ironbound Man

Police today announced the arrest of a man accused of robbing an elderly man in Newark's Ironbound section.

According to police, Malik Manning, 26, of Newark was taken into custody for an armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 2nd.

Police said that at approximately 12 a.m., two male suspects approached a 69-year old victim and his friend in the area of Walnut Street and New Jersey Railroad Avenue and demanded their money at gunpoint.

The suspects removed cash and personal items from both male victims.

Police canvassing the area observed Manning as fitting the description of one of the suspects at Downing and Madison streets.

Manning was found in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun and was arrested without incident.

He is charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession, Conspiracy and Resisting Arrest.

The second suspect remains at large and the investigation is continuing.
