Newark Police arrested Duan Fleming, 25, of Newark for unlawful possession of a handgun in the 400 block of North 9th Street on Wednesday evening according to authorities.
Police said, at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers canvassing the area observed Fleming in the act of placing a weapon in his front waist area.
According to police, Fleming fled and was captured by the officers who also recovered the handgun.
In addition to the weapons charges, Fleming was also charged with Obstructing Administration of Law and Contempt authorities said.
These are accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
