Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the entry of a guilty plea in the matter of State of New Jersey v. Jermaine Eason.
According to authorities, Jermaine Eason Wednesday pleaded guilty to seven counts of Robbery, a 1st degree crime, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, a 2nd degree crime, one count of Jury Tampering, a 3rd degree crime, and one count of Terroristic Threats, a 3rd degree crime, before the Honorable Marybel Mercado-Ramirez, J.S.C. Defendant faces a combined term of twenty years New Jersey State Prison, and must serve at least 85% of the entire term before being eligible for parole.
Following his release, he will also be subject to an additional five year term of parole supervision.
Eason admitted under oath that between November 13, 2012 and November 20, 2012, he entered multiple grocery stores in the City of Paterson armed with a 9 mm handgun, with the purpose to commit robberies. Eason admitted that he entered the stores, brandishing his weapon and demanded money from the store owners or employees. Eason further admitted that on October 13, 2016, he called his co-defendant Rayvon Wilson’s father, Mr. Darryl Clyburn, threatening to kill his son if Wilson decided to testify against Eason in the robbery trial. Additionally, Eason admitted that while on trial for a separate matter back in September of 2014, he called a prospective juror from the Passaic County Jail in an effort to influence her to be more favorable toward him during trial.
Eason’s co-defendants on the robberies previously pleaded guilty and were sentenced to state prison. Clara Amaya was sentenced to 10 years New Jersey State Prison on May 15, 2015. Rayvon Wilson was sentenced to 14 years New Jersey State Prison on June 5, 2015.
Both defendants must serve 85% of their entire term and will be subject to five (5) years parole supervision upon release. Eason is scheduled for sentence on June 23, 2017.
