Man Accused of Leading Wild Chase Through Linden Charged

Linden

Police have identified the 27-year-old man charged with seven counts of aggravated assault following yesterday's ordeal through the city.

James Wnek, 27, formerly of Linden but currently living in Arizona, was discharged from the hospital and taken to the Union County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Wnek was charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, one count of eluding police, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief.

Three officers suffered minor injuries, two from exposure to mace and one officer while making the arrest.

The incident began when a Wnek struck a police vehicle after he entered the police headquarters parking lot sometime around 3:58 p.m. As he fled, the suspect struck a parked vehicle with his black Nissan SUV and then continued to the area near the intersection of West Henry Street and Spruce Street where he deliberately rammed into a second police car, where the officer managed to jump out of the vehicle unharmed.
